Well i prefer the british, russian, and french factions, mostly for their good archers in the late period. I am currently in a campaign with the spanish, british, french, and russian factions. Now my basic strategy to play as the british is have 8 units of yeoman archers/retinue longbowman, 4 units of aurmored swordsmen, 2 units of heavy billmen, 2 units of chivalric knights, 3 units of either trebuchets, mortars, or ribaults, and 1 general. arrnge them like this:

now you put the archers to use sharpened stakes, and turn off skirmish mode. Now this way the enemy will attak the swordsmen while the billmen charge at the flanks and cavalry attak the rear.
as the russian, there is a bit of challenge: 8 units of infantry, 8 units of missile units, 1 unit of artillery, and 2 units of cavalry, along with 1 general.

french: use 6 units of infantry,cavalry,and missile units, 1 unit general and artillery. arrange like russian exept 1 row of each, cavalry on flanks.
